Fascinated by the platform shoes (I don’t know if they enter in the patten category) worn by the effigy of Beatrice d'Este, duchess of Milan, sculpted between 1497 and 1499 by Cristoforo Solari. Beatrice d'Este was a passionate fashionista and trendsetter, who not only designed her own dresses but would also sometimes sew them herself. Her style was imitated outside Italy by other foreign European courts.
